[BioNLP] Open Faculty Positions at The Ohio State University

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (BMI) in partnership with multiple departments and units at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center​<http://wexnermedical.osu.edu/> (OSUWMC) is seeking outstanding candidates for tenure track faculty positions at all levels (assistant, associate, and full professorships) in the area of bioinformatics and computational biology. BMI leads robust and expansive informatics research, service, and training programs spanning multiple domains including: high performance computing, bioinformatics, computational biology, translational bioinformatics, imaging informatics, clinical research informatics, clinical informatics, and public health informatics. These efforts are complemented by strong collaborations among the informaticians, biologists, clinicians, computer scientists, and engineers. Faculty and staff in BMI have comprehensive access to an advanced information systems environment including inpatient and outpatient electronic health records, data warehousing platforms, a variety of enterprise research information systems, and high-performance computing and data management facilities for both clinical and biologic data, the latter being afforded by a partnership with the Ohio Supercomputer Center<http://www.osc.edu/>. Unprecedented growth in extramural programmatic funding and a recent $1 billion expansion of OSUWMC further enhance the breadth and depth of resources at the nation’s largest, integrated health sciences campus.

Clinical Informatics:<http://medicine.osu.edu/bmi/Documents/Posting_Clinical-Informatics.pdf> ​We are interested in researchers engaged in all areas of clinical informatics, including (but not limited to):

 *   Innovative approaches to clinical decision support, including those using biological and clinical data
 *   Developing computational techniques and infrastructures for analyzing, managing, visualizng, mining, and integrating multi-dimensional high throughput and multi-dimensional data sets
 *   Applying machine learning, data science/mining, information theory, mathematical modeling, scientific visualization, text mining, and natural language processing tools and methods to enable in-silico knowledge synthesis and biomedical discoveries that inform novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for a variety of diseases
 *   The use of any of these informatics methods to support clinical transformation and improvements in health

Computational Biology and Bioinformatics:<http://medicine.osu.edu/bmi/Documents/Posting_Bioinformatics.pdf> We are interested in researchers engaged in all relevant areas of translational bioinformatics and computational biology, such as (but not limited to):

 *   Development of integrative biological and clinical "Big Data" management, analysis, and high performance computing platforms to enable the efficient usage of high-dimensional data such as NGS, imaging, and molecular perturbations
 *   Development and application of integrative network analyses, data mining and machine learning methods for generating testable hypothesis and identify actionable discoveries
 *   Visualization and integrative modeling of multi-scale biomedical data and processes.

These faculty positions are partially funded by The Ohio State University’s Discovery Themes Initiative​<https://discovery.osu.edu/>, a significant investment in key thematic areas in which the university will make a global impact: Energy and Environment, Food Production and Security, and Health and Wellness.  Spanning these grand challenges, the Data Analytics Collaborative provides the basis for delivering transformative solutions that harness the power of big data. The Collaborative will establish a singular presence in data analytics at Ohio State, incorporating innovative research, workforce development, and the establishment of high-impact partnerships.
